Photo Submission Guidelines

What does it take to get a photo published?
Submission Guidelines

Colorado Explorer Magazine is monthly magazine that promotes travel and outdoor activates around the state of Colorado. We publish photographs, and travel and adventure stories about places, people, and things to do around Colorado. Colorado has some of the most majestic scenery in the world and people want to see photographs and read the accounts of others of these areas.

Please take an opportunity to read a copy of our magazine so that you understand both our style and content. The following submission guidelines are intended to make it easier for the magazine editors to receive, evaluate, and hopefully publish your submission. Please review these guidelines before you submit a photograph, article, or advertisement.

The magazine as well as calendars, cards, etc, are all planned and laid out several months in advance. Photographs and articles can be submitted as stand alone items. You do not need to submit an article with your photograph or a photograph with your article. If you do submit an article with a photograph, there is no guarantee that they will be used together.

 Photography Guidelines

Colorado Explorer Magazine is always looking for photographic submissions. Submit only images that are of the highest quality and that you believe exemplify the type and quality of photographs that is found in Colorado Explorer Magazine. In order to achieve the high-quality photos in our publications, we require large format digital (five mega- pixel or greater), 4x5 transparencies, or original 35 mm slides or transparencies that have exceptional quality and content. No prints, negatives, or duplicate transparencies will be accepted for review by our photography editors.

Each photographic submission requires a completed Colorado Explorer Magazine Photo Delivery Receipt signed and dated by the photographer. The Photo Delivery Receipt can be downloaded from out website at www.coloradoexplorer.com prior to making your submission. We may hold images that meet our quality standards for later publications. All submissions should be sent by a private express courier service or US Mail Certified.

Please include along with your photograph a caption that includes the photographers name, address, phone number, and e-mail. Photographs will not be reviewed if the photographers name does not appear on every CD or transparency mount. Digital photos must be submitted on a CD and in a protective case with each photograph clearly labeled. In order to protect the images and for ease of viewing by the editors, use slide file pages and clear acetate sleeves on all slides and transparencies.

Colorado Explorer Magazine purchases one-time rights of all photographs. If Colorado Explorer Magazine uses your photograph several times (e.g., in an issue and a calendar), then you will be paid for each instance it is used. Submitting your photographs for consideration means you agree to our policies and give permission for publication in Colorado Explorer Magazine or any of our publications. We do not acknowledge as binding the terms of individual photographers' submittal forms. We do not accommodate any individual exceptions to our terms and policies. If you disagree with any of our policies or wish us to make individual exceptions, you should not submit any photographs for review.

We acknowledge receipt of your materials with an e-mail notice for count only, not for condition. We do not call to request permission for publication as your submission with the photo delivery receipt is your permission. We do not pay research or holding fees only the one time use of any of the photos that we use. We check closely for damage only when a photograph is selected for possible publication. At that time we will remove the protective cover and notify you of any damage or defects that we detect, and make a final decision about publishing the image. We do not pay any fees for opening a mount to closely examine the condition of the image before possible publication. All payments will be paid at the time of publication of the photograph.
