Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad Winter Train

Relive history with the sights and sounds of yesteryear for a truly spectacular journey on board the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad. Experience the adventure of traveling by a coal-fired, steam-powered locomotive on the same tracks miners, cowboys and settlers of the old west took over a century ago. The Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad winds through spectacular & breathtaking canyons in the remote wilderness of the two-million acre San Juan National Forest for an unforgettable year round adventure.

The "Winter Cascade" train has daily round-trip service to Cascade Canyon runing from November 23 through December 31, 2005 (excepting December 25), and again from March 16 through April 30, 2006. Wednesday through Saturday round-trip service to Cascade Canyon runs January 1 through March 15, 2006.

The train leaves Durango at 10:00 AM and stops for a 60 minute break by the rushing Animas River at the Cascade Station. Light lunch items are available on the concession car on board the train. Following the break, the train departs Cascade at 1:00 PM and arrives in Durango at 3:05 PM.

With the regular fare you are seated in the closed Vintage Coach Car. A 1st Class parlor car fare (age 21+) is available for $89, and includes a complimentary glass of champagne, non-alcoholic beverages and croissants. Full-bar service is available.

Note: Children under 5 are free if seated on an adult's lap. If a seat is required, you must purchase a child's ticket.

Elegant Private Cars
For a once in a lifetime experience, charter an elegant 1880's coach. These classic vintage cars will be pulled behind one of our regularly scheduled trains for a very special experience. All Private Cars are rented exclusively to the booking party. Each car is connected to the end of the train and there is no walk-through traffic. SUMMER

With the regular fare you may choose seating in either the Open Air Gondola or Closed Coach Car. A 1st Class parlor car fare (age 21+) is available for $109, and includes a complimentary glass of champagne, non-alcoholic beverages and croissants. Full-bar service is available.

Mountain Express

This Cascade Family adventure train is pulled by a diesel engine and departs Durango at 11:00AM, returning at 4:45PM. Learn about native flora, Colorado wildlife, nature studies and fire ecology on this half day wilderness adventure train. Smokey Bear will be on hand at the Cascade station to educate and meet guests. Explore the "Discovery Trail" at the Cascade Canyon. Goodie bags will be provided for all youths on board. Developed in cooperation with San Juan Public Lands and the San Juan Mountains Association.
