AdAmAn Club
Looking for something different to do on New Year’s Eve besides go to parties? How about getting your name on the list of a very adventuresome club…. The AdAmAn (add a man) club. Every year on December 30th and 31st, the AdAmAn club and their guests climb the icy slopes of Barr Trail and make their way to the summit of Pikes Peak. At the stroke of midnight on New Year’s Eve, they set off fireworks to usher in the New Year. Each year, only one new member is added to the club from a list of applicants Founded in 1922, the original club had five members and one new member is added every year. The club has stayed at a pretty constant 30 members since the 1960s. The trek to the summit begins on December 30th with a hike to the timberline Barr camp. On December 31st, the hikers flash family and friends in the Colorado Springs area with mirrors prior to the final push to the summit. This final 2,000 feet is often done in deep snow and high winds with windchills upwards of -50 degrees which can be very challenging to say the least. At the stroke of midnight, the AdAmAn club lights their fireworks, which on a clear night, can be seen from hundreds of miles away. Looking for something different to do on New Year’s Eve? Are you a climber who wants to be with others that share the same enthusiasm you do for your sport? Check out the AdAmAn club!
